Estas son las reseñas biográficas de algunos de los expositores presentes en el Simposio Nacional
de Exportación de Servicio de Salud:

Ministro de la Protección Social República de Colombia

Diego Palacio Betancourt es médico cirujano del Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario con Master en Economía de la Pontifica Universidad Javeriana y con especializaciones en Gerencia de Mercadeo del Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, en Administración y Gerencia de Recursos Humanos de la Universidad de los Andes y en Derecho Económico de la Universidad Externado de Colombia.

Su trayectoria profesional se ha consolidado en diferentes medios de comunicación como la Dirección de Proyectos Especiales de la Casa Editorial El Tiempo, Gerente Nacional de Ventas y Mercadeo así como Gerente Nacional de Mercadeo Social de RCN Radio y Presidente de RCN Internacional en la ciudad de Nueva York.

Igualmente, trabajó con el Estado como Asesor en dos oportunidades del Ministro Juan Luis Londoño de la Cuesta en el Ministerio de Salud en el período 1993 a 1994 y en el Ministerio de la Protección Social hasta el fatídico accidente aéreo de 2003. Asimismo, se ha desempeñado como Asesor del Director del Departamento Nacional de Planeación (DNP) en el período 1994 a 1995.

Palacio Betancourt ha trabajado como consultor de la Organización Panamericana de la Salud (OPS), investigador Invitado del proyecto “Comunicación y Desarrollo” de la Universidad de Georgetown, Foreing Service School en Washington D.C., coordinador del Programa Administración Hospitalaria del Instituto FES de Liderazgo y director del Proyecto Comunicación y Salud del Hospital Lorencita Villegas de Santos.

Durante su gestión en el Ministerio se ha destacado por la vertiginosa ampliación de cobertura en régimen subsidiado para llegar con aseguramiento en salud a poblaciones vulnerables de diferentes regiones del país, el incremento en número de beneficiarios del programa de protección social al adulto mayor y en aprovechamiento al máximo de los recursos del sector para llegar a más hogares colombianos con los programas del Estado en materia de nutrición, vacunación, salud y capacitación, entre otros.

 

Viceministro de Salud y Bienestar

Médico de la Universidad Federal de Ceara, Brasil; Abogado de la Pontificia Universidad Bolivariana y Administrador Público de la Escuela de Administración Pública. Especialista en Gerencia Hospitalaria de la Universidad Eafit y cuenta con un Diplomado en Auditoria Médica del Centro Latinoamericano de Estudios de Alta Gerencia. 

Fue Representante a la Cámara durante el periodo 2002-2006, haciendo parte de la Comisión Séptima donde fue ponente, de la reforma pensional, la ley de carrera administrativa, la reforma laboral, la ley de riesgos profesionales y la ley de talento humano en salud. De igual forma fue coautor de la reforma política y citante a numerosos debates de control político.

Se desempeñó como director del Instituto Metropolitano de Salud, Metrosalud y Gerente del Hospital General de Medellín.

El Viceministerio  de Salud y Bienestar es el encargado de la reducción y la superación de los riesgos sociales, de salud y asociados al ciclo vital como infancia y vejez, está integrado por las Direcciones Generales de Calidad de Servicios, de Promoción Social, de Salud Pública, de Gestión de la Demanda en Salud y de Riesgos Profesionales.

CEO Medical Tourism Association

Jonathan Edelheit is the CEO of the Medical Tourism Association, the international non-profit trade association for the Medical Tourism industry. Mr. Edelheit and the Medical Tourism Association currently consult and represent several governments in their medical tourism plans and initiatives, and is currently working with some of the largest US health insurance companies and Employers in implementing medical tourism into their health plans. The Medical Tourism association is made up of the top hospitals and insurance companies from around the world. Mr. Edelheit is also co-editor of the Medical Tourism Magazine a monthly magazine published by the Medical Tourism Association.

Previous to the Medical Tourism Association, Mr. Edelheit was in charge of United Group Programs a large US healthcare administrator with clients such as DaimlerChrysler, Sysco, State of Florida and Idaho. Believing that Medical Tourism could be a solution to the US healthcare crisis, Mr. Edelheit left United Group Programs to work for the Medical Tourism Association and to help educate the world on the high quality of care available overseas. Mr. Edelheit was the first healthcare executive in the US to implement Medical Tourism in a self funded health plan. Mr. Edelheit has been featured or mentioned in over 40 magazines from Time Magazine to Newsweek, and in February who was featured as a visionary in US healthcare for his activities in Medical Tourism by Executive Managed Healthcare Magazine, which goes out to 40,000 top US healthcare executives. Mr. Edelheit is also an attorney and is considered an expert in US healthcare.
